1. Will my new dentures feel strange at first? Yes, it's completely normal for dentures to feel a little bulky or awkward at first. Your mouth needs time to adjust, but most people adapt within a few weeks.
2. How long does it take to get used to wearing dentures? Everyone is different, but typically it takes around 2–4 weeks to feel comfortable speaking and eating with your new dentures.
3. Will I be able to eat normally? Yes – start with soft foods cut into small pieces, and chew slowly. Over time, you’ll be able to enjoy a wide range of foods again.
4. Will people be able to tell I’m wearing dentures? The Denture Spa's Dentures are designed to look incredibly natural. With a proper fit and a high-quality design, most people won’t know you’re wearing them. We have many before/after images to patients to view, so they can see exactly whats possible and how incredible they are going to look.
5. Can I sleep in my dentures? Nope!!!!! It is highly recommended to remove dentures at night to give your gums a rest and to maintain good oral hygiene. Your CDT will advise what’s best for your situation. Dentures often rely on suction, it is important to give yor mouth a rest.
6. How do I clean my dentures? We recommend to clean them daily with a soft brush and Infant toothpaste.. Many sterilising tablets on the market bleach the dentures, leaving them porous ands brittle over time. We advise that if you are to soak the dentures in such solutions, once every fortnight is enough.
7. Will dentures affect how I speak? You may notice slight changes at first, many advise that counting from fifty to fifty seven helps as it uses all the sounds in the english language, but where is the fun in that?? I recommend getting you favourite music on the speakers and bellowing out the tunes. Forcing out the words/lyrics increasing speedy adaptation to your new smile.
8. Can I use regular toothpaste on my dentures? Yes and No- Standard toothpaste can scratch denture surfaces. Always use products specifically designed for denture care, or opt for infant tooth paste. ALWAYS ensure you brush an remaining teeth and gums for great oral hygiene.
9. What should I do if my dentures are rubbing or causing sore spots?Book a review appointment. Never try to adjust them yourself – The Denture Spa can make small adjustments to relieve discomfort. There is an ultra fine line between contact and pressure and can be adjusted in a matter of seconds.
10. How long will my dentures last?With proper care, most dentures last 5–8 years. However, your mouth changes over time, so they may need adjusting or replacing to maintain comfort and fit.
11. What if my dentures feel loose? New dentures can feel loose initially as your mouth is used to an old set. Adaptations is initial, and the denture starts to 'bed-in' immediately. Gums and bone shape do change over time and very often a denture can be re-lined. If this happens, contact The Denture Spa for an appointment.
12. Can I still get gum infections with dentures? Yes. Even without natural teeth, oral hygiene is important. Clean your gums, tongue, and palate daily to avoid infections or irritation.
13. Are dentures covered by my Insurance Company? Absolutely, some private insurance plans (like Denplan or hospital funds) may cover part of the cost. Check with your provider or ask us for advice.
14. What are implant-retained dentures, and should I consider them? Implant-retained dentures are held in place by implants in the jaw. They offer superior stability and function, especially for those struggling with loose dentures.
15. How often should I have my dentures checked?Ideally, have them checked annually, or sooner if you notice discomfort, damage, or changes in fit. Regular reviews help maintain long-term comfort and oral health.
